According to the research that I have conducted and my own knowledge of religious contributions, Christian Catholicism has contributed the most to the development of human society. With the ethical principles and written codes of behaviour such as the Catholic Social Teachings, the Catholic Church contributes to human society by improving human rights and working out justice to those who are treated unjustly as well protecting all of God’s creations by respecting, caring and sharing all the earth’s resources. These teachings are fundamental to the development of human society. Catholic Social Teachings addresses all aspects of human society and guides Catholics in the economic, political, personal and spiritual aspect of life. These principles stated in the Catholic Social Teachings guides Catholics to ensure good, righteous and principled development of human society occurs.
The Catholic Church have introduced many charities which are aimed at improving human living conditions and giving them the fairness of life with additional aid through the works of charities. Donations collected positively impact people living in poverty, homelessness, Indigenous Australians, refugees, International matters in developing countries and the disadvantaged. Charities and organisations such as St Vincent de Paul Society and Caritas have been introduced to improve the human society. All Catholics are encouraged to support these organisations and charities. Development of schools and churches around Australia during colonisation have also contributed to human society with the assistance of the Presentation Sisters and the Marist Brothers. These acts which contribute to human society follow the Catholic Social Teachings of dignity of the human being, preferential option for the poor, the common good, solidarity, subsidiarity and participation.
The pope has become an advocate and has spoken about the need to protect our environment and this follows the Catholic Social Teaching of Stewardship of Creation. He says
"Humanity is called to recognise the need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this warming or at least the human causes which produce or aggravate it."
All humans should be treated with the righteousness they deserve as we are created in the likeness and image of God and Catholicism serves this out and aims at improving the living standards and conditions of those who are not treated with this.
